About me
Hi! My name is Mario Munta and I am Assistant Professor in EU Public Policy at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Zagreb, and a former Max Weber Fellow with the Robert Schuman Centre at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. Currently I am the head of Department of Public Policy and Political Economy. I received my PhD in Political Science from the Central European University (advisor: Uwe Puetter). I am the author of: “EU Socio-Economic Governance in Central and Eastern Europe” (Routledge, 2021).
In 2022 I was a visiting researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles (IEE-ULB) and Adjunct Professor at KEDGE Business School in Bordeaux. In 2023 I was Adjunct Professor at the James Madison University, Florence campus, where I was lecturing on EU social and economic policy at MA level.
My research interests include EU socio-economic governance, Europeanization of public policy, Social Europe, Economic and Monetary Union, The European Green Deal and European integration.
I teach regularly on Public Policy, EU Public Policy, Europeanisation and EU socio-economic governance. I am also a co-founder of the Centre for Policy Writing, and enjoy giving hands-on trainings on policy writing with impact, using policy briefs and op-eds.
In 2019 I received the Dirk Berg-Schlosser award for outstanding pedagogy from the ECPR and in 2021 I was the winner of the Young Scientists Award 2021 by the Society of Higher Education Professors of the University of Zagreb.
I spend the majority of my spare time hanging out with family and friends, playing tennis or reading books. From time to time you will see me playing RPG (mostly action-adventure or survival horrors) games and sports simulations on my PS5. I'm an avid foodie and specialty coffee lover.
